France – President Addresses United Nations General Debate, 77th Session
Emmanuel Macron, President of the Republic of France, addresses the general debate of the 77th Session of the General Assembly of the UN (New York, 20-26 September 2022).
President of France, Emmanuel Macron, told the General Assembly that Russia’s invasion of Ukraine is a “return to the age of imperialism and colonies.”
Delivering his speech at the General Assembly high-level debate today (20 Sep) in New York, President Macron said, “Today we need to make a simple choice, basically, that of war or that of peace.”
“On the 24th of February this year,” he stated, “Russia, a permanent member of the security council, through an act of aggression, an invasion, an annexation broke our collective security; it deliberately violated the U.N. Charter and the principles of sovereign equality of states.”
Macron continued, “There is one sure and certain thing when I am talking to you now there are Russian troops in Ukraine, and as far as I know, there are no Ukrainian troops in Russia. That is a statement of fact.”
Macron stated, “what we see since the 24th of February is a return to the age of imperialism and colonies. France rejects this.”
He also said that the countries that have chosen neutrality vis-à-vis this war “are wrong and are making a historical error.”
